We had a good turn out for this year’s piece of fun.
Most people arrived at about 9.00 on a dry but breezy morning and we were under way by 9.15 with last year’s winners Rob and Elliott being first to set off and this year we had a first with Lorraine bringing her dog Poppy who went round in a basket with an occasional walk.
The route this year went via King Street, Marden Ash, Greenstead, Stamford Rivers, Navestock and back to Stondon Massey a total of 18.8 miles.
The most difficult clues proved to be the “Boron Rods” near King Street, The “Clamp” at Navestock and surprisingly (to me) Queen Anne’s Cottage where some teams were put off by a residential road prior to the clue.
The vicar at Navestock shares a name with a golfer that I thought was famous (Mark James) but this was not apparently universal so I gave one point for Nicklaus (from St Nicklaus’s Church) which I had not even noticed when setting the course.
The event was won for the 2nd consecutive year by Rob and Elliott but as can be seen below it was very close.
The full result is:-
1. Rob and Elliott 21 Points 16 minutes late Chocolate bar winners 2. Sue and Alan 19 Points 18 minutes late 3. Team Godfrey (inc Poppy) 19 Points 21 minutes late 4. Anne B and Colin 19 Points 39 minutes late 5. John and Les 18 Points 23 minutes late 6. Dave and Norman 15 Points 41 minutes late 7. Alastair and Patrick 5 Points 6 minutes late Last place prize
The atmosphere at the finish was good and even the dogs were in good form and the cakes and sausage rolls seemed to go down a treat.
Thanks to everyone who turned up and to Howard who seemed to spend most of the morning assisting other teams instead of catching Rob and Elliott up to increase their team.
