Hainault Roads Club Champion, Rob Dulson, and former club champion, Paul Gee, took on the challenge of the ECCA 12 hour time trial last Sunday on the E2 course near Newmarket.
The blazing heat had temperatures soaring into the high twenties and with strong winds to contend with Dulson still managed to ride a staggering 241.5 miles. Having missed out on finishing the Breckland 12 hour TT last week due to injury Dulson was more than pleased with his result. "Well, a much better event this week, but it was the hardest 12 I've ever done. It was really good and highly motivating to see so many club members out supporting, they were all a great boost - Thanks". In such conditions it's paramount to stay properly hydrated so helpers are essential in order to pass the riders bottles of water throughout the race. The Hainault's treasurer and racing coach, Graham Mann, has assisted Rob throughout all of his 12 hour efforts and Dulson was quick to acknowledge his services. "I would like to thank Graham, without his help I could never have managed". Paul Gee's distance was somewhere between 225-227 - final results are still pending - he later remarked "If it wasn't for the brilliant support of all the wives, girlfriends, backup teams and cheerleaders none of us would be able to compete at this level and it doesn't finish there, one day like the 12hr for most could mean training for a year. My training lasted all of one week so I was pretty pleased with finishing".
The previous day Hainault's Mark Steers travelled to Cambridge to ride the Team Sanjan Design 10 mile time trial on the F2a/10 course on the A428 between Hardwick and Caxton Gibbet. Riding his fixed-wheel machine and dealing with heavy crosswinds Steers crossed the line in twenty two minutes and thirteen seconds. The event was won by Richard O'Rourke of sponsored team Flitch Crono in 20.22. |
